This month we've got one of the most exciting selectors in the bay, otherwise known as WONWAY. His monthly event, MAKOSSA, has spanned 3 different cities including San Francisco, Oakland, and most recently New York and features nothing but the finest in afrolatin heat.
When he's not busy doin it up with his other crews like the LATIN SOUL BROTHERS, DISTORTION2STATIC, or mixin it up on THINKBEAT RADIO, he's making classic mixtapes. We suggest you Google Makossa Classics Volumes 1 & 2, and you'll see what we're talking about.

WHO IS WONWAY?
Wonway is a creative hiphop doitall: MC Freestyle Champion, DJ, radio host of ThinkBeat Radio (All Day Play and KPFA) and co-architect of the legendary San Francisco Wednesday Night Sessions with The Park. In his short time returning to being a full time DJ, he has already played with Afrika Bambaataa, Tony Touch, Bobbito, Garth Trinidad, Neil Armstrong, and Quantic just to name a few.
His afrolatin hiphop jump, Makossa has grown in popularity to spawn the incredible monthlies in SF, Makossa West, and most recently New York, with the Makossa BK Cookout. His style is soulful party hiphop fused with Latin, Afrobeat and the occasional slap. His “Makossa Classics" mix series is crack for dancing fiends and a must have for music heads, receiving accolades from people such as Erykah Badu and feautured on numerous influential websites including Okayplayer and Remezcla.

SUBSTANCE is a monthly musical event held every second Friday in San Mateo at an intimate venue otherwise known as Attic.
Its main goals are:
1. To bring like-minded music lovers together.
2. To represent for music/musicians/deejays of the highest caliber who often get overlooked.
3. To introduce people to the beauty and brilliance of underground music (we tend to gravitate towards soul, jazz, funk, house, broken-beat, boogie, world rhythms, and other progressive styles).
4. To attract people to come to our event strictly because of what we play. Selection is what we intend to build our reputation on.
We feel that most music in the public eye is all flash, gimmicks, but lacking SUBSTANCE. We want to fill that void.
